The Best Bags of the Year

The Best Bags of the Year

Etro's folklore fantasy bag

Etro was dreaming of Mongolia and Tibet for Fall/Winter 2014-2015 and this hand-embroidered bag marries craftsmanship and natural materials for a one-off look. Hit the Silk Road this winter.

Since it started out in 1968, Etro has mixed and matched prints and embellishment of all kinds, in pieces that could have come from the four corners of the earth. Gimmo Etro first discovered the traditional Kashmeri paisley motif on a trip through Asia in 1981, today his daughter, Veronica, is at the head of the house, where she unveils new pieces inspired by travel around the world each season. For Fall/Winter 2014-2015, she looked to the Far East and the Central Asian steppes to produce a wardrobe blending different textures, motifs, colors and embellishment. This folky embroidered calfskin ba with a raw wool fringe is emblematic of the collection, making for a unique piece for Fall. If you don't tell anyone you didn't pick it up on your travels, we won't either.

Embroidered calfskin and wool bag, Etro, €1,860
