8 reasons to wear less makeup

8 reasons to wear less makeup

18 June 2014 by Zara Kenyon
Makeup. We spend big money buying it, hours applying it, and what feels like forever taking it off. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could skip the whole process and rejoice in bare-faced joy? Well, we can; there’s nobody stopping us and it actually feels quite good, so here are the reasons to skip the foundation and give your face a rest.

1. Because our skin will thank us for it

We love makeup, we really do, but sometimes our skin needs a little break - just look at this clever Think Dirty app to see what toxins we’re slathering on. There’s no escaping that inches of makeup are bound to clog your pores, so let skin breathe, soak up your creams and watch blemishes shrink as your radiance is restored.

2. Because it looks and feels pretty awesome

You know that glorious squeaky clean look? Well, imagine that freshness all day long - it’s nice not to worry about streaky foundation when you’re sweating it out on the bus. Not only does your skin look fresh when you let its natural tone shine through, but it’s liberating to sometimes free yourself of makeup maintenance.

3. Because it save a crapload of cash

Yes, there are few things more alluring than a new lipstick in a shiny gold case, but makeup is expensive ladies, and it doesn’t grow on trees. We’re not saying don’t spend your pennies on makeup - in fact, we condone it, makeup is fun - but if you wear it less and stick to special occasions, those pricey restocks are few and far between.

4. Because we get extra time in bed

On average, we spend a year and three months putting our makeup on; that’s a lot of lay-in time we’ve traded for contoured cheeks. Not to mention the time it then takes to clean all that makeup off, and we’re basically slaves to a daily regime that could be replaced with sleep. Or fun.

5. Because we don’t need it

Has your other half ever told you that you look better makeup-free? They’re not pulling off the scam of the century; they’re telling you the truth. Because, without going all philosophical on you, there’s a reason we weren’t born with permanent liner - naturally, we’re beautiful without a scrap of paint.

6. Because it turns into a smeary mess anyway

Let’s face it, your daily makeup plan doesn’t always go as hoped - either you’re worrying about a tell-tale tidemark, or by 3pm it’s a smudgy mess. Wouldn’t it be nice to go a whole day without worrying about errant smears? Wear less makeup or none at all, and you can breeze by worry-free.

7. Because it takes the hard part out of no makeup makeup

Every season, the beauty trends give kudos to no makeup makeup, but we say take the effort out and just ditch the makeup part. Sure, you could spend hours sculpting your face and creating a base that makes skin look bare, but when you have a bare face of your own, doesn’t that sound all, well, a bit pointless?
